02 May The Solar Fairness Act was signed into law!
Fantastic news: on Tuesday, April 30th, Governor Inslee signed our Solar Fairness Act into law. Key stakeholders from the solar industry were there, solar modules in hand, to continue promoting solar. By updating Washington’s net metering law, the Solar Fairness Act will allow thousands more to earn full credit for the solar power they make.
Thanks to all of you who helped bring it over the finish line this session in Olympia. It’s been years in the making! Your conversations, meetings, calls, and emails to legislators have paid off, giving more people access to own their solar power in Washington State.
What does the new Solar Fairness Act accomplish, you ask?
- It expands the number of Washington solar owners who can benefit from solar net metering, giving them full credit on their utility bills for the power they produce.
- It also establishes a new right to generate or store energy for consumption.
- The true-up date for unused kWh credits shifted from April 30 to March 31, to help customers take advantage of more unused solar or kWh credits.
Thank you again for all you’ve done this year to speak up for the Solar Fairness Act in Olympia. Your solar support and enthusiasm are contagious!
